I was saddened to hear recently that TeamGB swimmer Ross Davenport has retired from competitive swimming, citing that he did not feel that he could be competitive at the next Olympic games in Rio. The sport has lost not only a fine athlete, being a triple Olympian don’t come easily, but also a gentleman of a man. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Ross in September as he helped coach at an open water event in Box End lake in Bedfordshire.
Ross gave me some fantastic tips for my channel swim and from a entirely selfish perspective, I hope his retirement will give him more time to coach community events. But wherever his future lies, I wish him all the best.
